1. Is there a minimum contract time?

Yes, the contract is for 12 months. If you do not wish to renew you should advise us two months prior to renewal.

2. What happens if I move back to the UK?

In this instance you may cancel your policy. Depending on how long you have been with Sanitas, you may well be able to transfer your policy to Bupa UK and or Bupa International.

3. Is there a maximum age limit?

New policies are contactable up to the age of 75 Years for Mas Salud, however this varies with other policies, please contact us for further details.

4. Do I have to pay for each visit to a Doctor?

This only applies to policies with Co-Payments (Co-Pagos) e.g. Mas Salud can be contracted with or without co-payments see informational leaflet for me details.

5. Where can I find the medical associated list?

6. Are Vaccinations covered?

Vaccines are not covered under your policy, you will need to buy them from chemist, we do however cover a nurse to administer these.

7. Can I have a full check up?

Yes, you need to go to a GP and have him order all necessary tests for this.

8. Can I have a mammogram?

Yes, this is covered from day 1.

9. Is there a waiting period?

New policies have a waiting period which apply from the policy start date. Each plan have these stipulated in the terms and conditions.

The waiting periods shall not apply to vital life threatening emergencies.

10. What is an emergency?

Emergency is a clinical situation that does not entail a life- threatening situation or irreparable damage to the physical integrity of the insured, that requires immediate medical care.

11. What is a vital emergency ( life threatening)?

Basically possible death within first 24 h.

12. How do I become a member of Sanitas?

Once you are happy with the price and level of cover simply fill in our application form here.

13. How do I pay for my health insurance?

You will need a Spanish bank account. However if not available you can pay by transfer on an annual basis.

14. If I have a reimbursement policy, how do I reclaim the money I have spent?

Please send the completed application form (which comes with your policy pack) together with an original copy of the invoice. If it is a matter of hospitalization and/or Doctors visit or therapy, please also include a medical/pathological report from the doctor. If the expenses originate from prescribed medication please use fill out the correct form for this (included in your policy pack). Please send this form together with the prescription.

15. How can I find out before I utilise my reimbursement policy how much the service that I require will cost me and how much Sanitas will reimburse me based on the service that I require?

Your specialist will tell you in a detailed medical report. Please send this together with the cost of the treatment to the address below at least seven business working days before you require the prescribed treatment to go ahead.

16. How do I find the terms and conditions of my policy?

The terms and conditions of your policy come with your policy pack. If you do not have your terms and conditions then please contact us and we will arrange for a copy to be sent to you.

17. What if I require Assistance in the United States of America through United Health Care?

Please send a medical report 15 days before you require the prescribed treatment to go ahead. To carry out this service please request the form from us.

NOTE: These services are carried out by Sanitas on behalf of United Health Care .The medical expenses arising from these services will be 100% within the specified limits of the insured capital as set out in the Private Conditions of each individual reimbursement policy.

18. Will Sanitas Cover me in any Spanish Social Security Hospital as well?

Only when you are admitted to a Social Security Hospital as an Emergency. Sanitas must be advised within 72 hours of your admission so that they can settle your bill and then transfer you to a private hospital if clinically possible.

19. What happens if my policy documents have not yet arrived and I need to use the insurance?

Please ring 951273444 or email info@sanitasexpat.com us and we will send you confirmation of your policy. When you enter a clinic or hospital simply present the confirmation at reception and everything will be taken care of for you.

20. Because of the initial waiting period for a hospital stay what happens if I become pregnant and need hospital services as a result of this?

Once you fall pregnant you will be covered for scans and other treatment, should you fall pregnant before taking out the policy,  you may be covered some scans and limited doctors visits. You would not be covered for the childbirth. Sanitas also offer a childbirth supplement if you are already pregnant. Please contact us for further details and detailed information of this service.

Should you have a life threatening situation where you need to be hospitalised you are covered immediately. When your child is born you would have to take out a policy for him/her on the day of birth for them to be covered. As long as you are residing in Spain , this will not affect having a policy with Sanitas.

21. We are interested in growing our family in the next year using assisted reproduction, what can Sanitas do for us?

Once a member of Sanitas you can apply for ASSISTED REPRODUCTION treatment with a discount. Contact us if you require this service.

22. What is Sanitas Dental?

Our Dental Plan policies include basic dentistry check-up’s which cover extractions, prevention of mouth diseases, fluoridation treatment, x-rays, diagnostic tests and teeth cleaning. These services are provided within the Sanitas Network. For just a small monthly premium you can take our extra dental supplement. You will also receive a discount of up to 40% for any other services provided by our associates in the network. The Mas 90 and Premium 500 plans also offer dental cover on a reimbursement basis. You can take out this cover on its own or receive an 11% discount on the premium if you are already a Sanitas health plan policy holder.

A. Medication is covered when hospitalised. Vaccinations will be at your own expense.

A. The object of this insurance is to help you have full control of your health. So yes if you wish to have a full medical you may.

Q. Can I have a mammogram?
