Most people are not aware that in 2017 Spain ranked 7th in the world for quality of healthcare. The Healthcare Access and Quality Index (HAQ), studied the quality of healthcare across 195 countries, measuring mortality rates from causes that should not be fatal in the presence of effective medical care.
The study analysed death rates from 32 such diseases and conditions over the period 1990 to 2017.
Spain scored 89.6 points out of a maximum 100, placing it 7th in the world rankings, above the healthcare systems of Italy (89), France (88), Greece (87), Germany (86), the UK (85) and Portugal (85). From this analysis the UK were placed 33rd (with 84.6) and the US 40th (with 81.3). The quality of health cover combined with Mediterranean weather and lifestyle makes Spain one of the best places to settle, live work and play.
